Built for AI, docs, and content workflows

AI / RAG document prep

Strip Word formatting into clean Markdown for LLM context windows, vector databases and RAG pipelines. The LLM-optimized mode outputs single-line paragraphs to save tokens.

Static site & blog pipelines

Drop Word-authored drafts into Hugo, Jekyll, Astro, Next.js or VitePress — images are packed into a media/ folder ready to copy.

Docs-as-code

Convert Word design specs, meeting notes and RFCs into Markdown for Git-based documentation systems like Docusaurus, MkDocs and Quarto.

Knowledge base migration

Batch-convert years of .docx archives into Markdown for Notion, Obsidian, Confluence or wiki platforms that speak Markdown natively.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The converter runs 100% in your browser using JavaScript. Your .docx files never leave your device, and the site works even with the network disconnected after loading.

Which file formats are supported?

Microsoft Word .docx files (Word 2007 and newer). The legacy binary .doc format is not supported — open it in Word and save as .docx first. Files from Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages exported as .docx also work.

How are images in my document handled?

By default images are extracted as separate files and referenced as media/image1.png in the Markdown; download the ZIP to get the .md plus a media/ folder. You can also switch to base64 embedding to keep everything in a single file.

What Markdown syntax does the output use?

CommonMark-compatible Markdown with optional GitHub Flavored Markdown: pipe tables, strikethrough and task lists. You can choose ATX (# Heading) or Setext (underlined) heading styles and the bullet character.

Can I convert multiple documents at once?

Yes. Drop several .docx files onto the page and they are converted one by one. Use “Download all as ZIP” to get every result, each in its own folder with its images.

Why do complex elements like text boxes or formulas look wrong?

Markdown has no equivalent for Word text boxes, equations, comments or tracked changes. Such content is simplified or dropped. For best results, use Word's built-in heading styles to structure your document.

Can I use this to prepare documents for AI tools and RAG pipelines?

Yes. Clean Markdown is the ideal format for feeding LLMs and retrieval-augmented generation systems. Enable the LLM-optimized option to produce single-line paragraphs that save tokens, and use batch conversion to process entire document libraries into a ZIP of .md files ready for chunking and embedding.

Is there a file size limit or daily conversion cap?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — there is no server-side quota, no daily limit, and no account requirement. The only constraint is your device's available memory, which typically handles documents up to several hundred megabytes.
